In the city of Omsk and several surrounding districts, there has been a concerning increase in road accidents involving minors on motorized sports equipment, such as pitbikes. This issue came to light following an urgent press conference held by the State Traffic Inspectorate on August 13th.

The conference was called in response to the tragic death of one child and the injury of 52 others, some severely, in these accidents. The cities of Omsk, Taras, Kalachinsky, Tavrichesky, and Tyukalinsky districts have seen the highest number of incidents.

The State Traffic Inspectorate has emphasised that these vehicles are sports equipment and should not be used on public roads. Natalia Bobyleva, head of the road safety propaganda department, reiterated this point, stating that skateboards can only be used on sports facilities during sports events or their preparation.

To address this issue, the State Traffic Inspectorate is reminding that Chapter 24 of the "Rules of the Road" applies to vehicles like mopeds. It is strictly prohibited for minors to ride such vehicles without a license, and violations can result in a fine of 30,000 rubles.

Only children aged 16 and above with a valid category M driver's license can ride a moped with an engine capacity of up to 50 cc. If a child falls under this age bracket, they must not use these vehicles on public roads, sidewalks, pedestrian, or bike paths.

The traffic police are urging parents not to buy motorized vehicles as gifts for children who have not reached the legal age. Since April, when the motorcycle season began, 702 violations have been recorded, mostly by children aged 10 to 17.

In a recent accident in the Bolsheukovsky district, a 17-year-old teenager riding a pitbike collided with a motorcycle driven by a peer. To report teenagers on such equipment, citizens can call 112 or 02.

The State Traffic Inspectorate is reaching out to parents to prevent tragedies, as they have already registered 53 road accidents involving minors. They are encouraging parents to educate their children about road safety and the importance of following traffic rules.

While detailed data on accident rates involving minors on pitbikes and targeted prevention campaigns specific to Omsk are not widely available, it is crucial for local authorities to take action to ensure the safety of minors on public roads. Checking local government or law enforcement publications, regional traffic safety departments, or news sources in Omsk would provide more precise and updated information.

  1. The increased road accidents involving minors on motorized sports equipment in Omsk and its surrounding districts, including pitbikes, have raised concerns about health-and-wellness, particularly mental health, as they result in injuries and tragedies.
  2. The latest general-news reports indicate that the State Traffic Inspectorate is heightening its emphasis on the rules of the road, focusing on the use of motorized vehicles like mopeds by minors, with an aim to improve overall road safety, especially in light of the rise in accidents.
  3. In a bid to combat the growing issue of minor involvement in crime-and-justice, such as operating motorized vehicles without licenses, the State Traffic Inspectorate is urging parents to exercise responsibility in their purchasing decisions and to educate their children about the importance of adhering to traffic rules and the serious repercussions of violations.
