Most businesses in Saxony-Anhalt, duty-bound to employ people with disabilities, are failing to meet this obligation, with reported figures showing a decrease in compliance from 32.6% in 2022 to 31.8% in 2023. In 2023, a mere 39.8% had partially met their obligation, a figure that has been increasing over the past decade. Dishearteningly, 28.4% of these businesses have not filled a single position for disabled individuals.

Markus Behrens, head of the Regional Directorate Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia of the Federal Employment Agency in Halle, highlights that several tools are readily available to help companies foster inclusivity. He stresses, "From training programs to financial incentives and technological resources, companies are encouraged to engage with their local employment agencies for guidance on enhancing the participation of individuals with disabilities in the workforce."

Negligent employers face penalties in the form of compensation levies paid to integration offices, an amount that scales based on business size and the employment quota.

In 2023, a little over 19,000 individuals with disabilities were employed in the state, accounting for 80% of them being aged 45 or older. The regional data reveals most of these individuals working in the manufacturing industry, public administration, or the social and health sector.
