Unsafe Substances Found: Chemical Containers Spotted in a Parking Lot Alongside a Roadway (FW-KLE)

On Easter Sunday, 31st of March, 2024, the Voluntary Fire Department of Bedburg-Hau was called to a hazardous materials incident on Triftstraße in Hau. The operation, led by Community Fire Inspector Tobias Aschemann, commenced at 1:41 PM.

The incident was preceded by a police report of unknown hazardous substances being disposed of on the parking lot. Upon arrival, a team in independent breathing apparatus conducted an initial reconnaissance. They found containers at the scene containing ammonia solution, chemicals for water treatment, oils, and cleaning agents.

Eleven operational personnel were on site during the operation. The containers were sealed, thus preventing contamination of the surroundings. The hazardous substances were secured and removed with the on-call service of the local authority of the municipality of Bedburg-Hau.

The Voluntary Fire Department Bedburg-Hau expressed disapproval of disposing of chemicals randomly in nature, as it creates unpredictable dangers for nature, humans, and animals. The hazardous substances are now being disposed of in a qualified manner via the hazardous waste mobile service of the Kreis Klever Waste Management GmbH.

The operation to secure and remove hazardous substances in Hau, Triftstraße, lasted 30 minutes. The fire department's forces initially secured the scene, ensuring the safety of the area and the people involved.
