Unknown substance package discovered at FW Hannover, causing harm to three individuals
In an unexpected turn of events, an incident occurred in Hannover's Südstadt district on Friday afternoon. At approximately 14:45, a package delivered by a courier company caused respiratory and circulatory problems for the courier and two police officers.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the regional control center escalated the alarm level and requested specialized personnel and vehicles from Fire Station 3 for hazardous material incidents. The Fire Department Hannover, in turn, took charge of the response.
A total of ten vehicles, including those from Fire Station 3, were involved in the operation. The response team consisted of 21 firefighters and rescue service personnel, who wore chemical protective suits as they approached the scene.
Upon arrival, the team found the package stored in a locked office at the police station in Südstadt. Firefighters carefully transported the package outside and conducted several substance tests. However, due to the inability to determine the exact substance, the package was stored in a special container and handed over to the police for further analysis in their own laboratories.
The police took over the scene after the cleaning process, which ended at approximately 18:30. During the cleaning process, Albert-Niemann-Straße was closed.
No new information about the exact substance in the package was provided. The affected police officers and the courier were transported to local hospitals for further treatment. The scene of the incident was thoroughly cleaned, and the Fire Department Hannover handled the incident response.
