The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) has upped its safety game, installing a whopping 18 new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across its campus. What does this mean for anyone studying or working on the premises? A swift response in emergencies!

Every building now boasts at least one AED, ensuring immediate access during critical moments. The university's Health, Safety, and Environment manager underscored the importance of empowering the community to act swiftly in emergencies where every second truly matters.

"AEDs can turn the game around when it's a matter of life and death," said Liz Rostant MacArthur, the manager in question.

Now, UPEI's total AED count stands at 35 - a pretty impressive number for a smaller campus. Large buildings and high-traffic zones got two or more AEDs each. Meanwhile, mobile units have taken up positions in strategically located buildings like the Alumni Canada Games Place and the Artificial Turf Field. Campus security personnel are also equipped with two mobile AEDs, ready to roll if needed.

AEDs are designed to treat sudden cardiac arrest. When CPR and an AED work together, the survival rate increases by a staggering 75%, as per the university's announcement. The devices come with voice-prompts and step-by-step instructions, making them user-friendly, even for those without a medical background.

So, with AEDs at every corner, the UPEI campus is more prepared than ever to tackle emergencies head-on. And that, folks, is progress!
