Unforeseen Easter Twist Leads to Joyful Conclusion
On a sunny Easter Sunday, the Farrell family in Ireland embarked on a memorable day filled with both challenges and joy. Twelve-year-old Juliana, who has Angelman Syndrome, was a key part of the festivities.
Despite receiving her COVID-19 vaccine shot in January, Juliana's interactions with many people and crowds indoors are still limited due to her needs for support and assistance. This meant that the family had to make some adjustments for the day's events.
The day started off unexpectedly when Juliana experienced a bout of diarrhea, causing an unplanned situation on Easter morning. The writer, who was with Juliana, made a decision to attend the church service, prioritising the outdoor service and Juliana's attention.
The family, however, had to divide and conquer. While Juliana and the writer stayed behind to finish getting her ready, Juliana's father and their 10-year-old daughter went to church as planned. Despite the diarrhea incident and the division of plans, the family did not miss the Easter egg hunt at church.
Juliana walked to the church service, a 10-minute walk that she handled fairly cheerfully. Once at the service, she beamed with excitement and rocked out to the music. She even participated in clapping at the service, her augmentative and alternative communication device providing a cheerful accompaniment.
The writer felt relief and happiness for the moment during the church service, despite the challenging start to the day. The family's Easter was eventful and uneventful at the same time, with a challenging start but a successful outcome.
After the church service, the family celebrated with an Easter egg hunt and a family dinner. A highlight of the day was a photo of Juliana at the Easter service photo booth, captured by her father.
Despite the unexpected challenges, the family managed to enjoy a simple yet memorable Easter Sunday celebration. The weather held up, allowing them to attend the church's outdoor service and celebration, making it a day they will always remember.
