Struggle of a Father in His Bid to Overcome Substance Abuse
In a heartwarming story of resilience and recovery, a father-of-five has successfully battled addiction at the Hemaya Center, a department within Dubai Police dedicated to tackling substance abuse.
Brig. Dr. Abdulrahman Sharaf Al Maamari, the director of the Hemaya Center, highlighted the importance of early detection in saving lives. The man's struggle began with a single experimental dose, leading to a cycle of drug and prescription abuse.
The director emphasised that the first step towards survival is acknowledgment, followed by asking for help. This sentiment was echoed by Major General Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, the director of the Hemaya Center who supported the man throughout his treatment.
The man described his life before addiction as normal, filled with a loving family. However, his addiction shattered his once-stable life, leading him to a life marked by humiliation and crisis.
After seeking help at the Hemaya Center, the man found solace in healthier alternatives such as exercise, supportive social circles, faith, and optimism. He returned to the center with his wife, seeking treatment, compassion, and structure to prevent relapse.
The director warned against using sedatives or antidepressants to escape stress, failure, or loneliness, as they can lead to dependency. Instead, he encourages individuals to face their challenges head-on, with the support of family, friends, and professional help.
The Hemaya Center works in partnership with other organisations to address both the physical and emotional scars left by addiction. The center's open-door policy ensures that anyone seeking help can find it without judgment.
The director emphasised that addiction's impact extends to the entire family, and that many people succeed in overcoming addiction because they are not ashamed to seek help from experts and certified clinics like the Hemaya Center.
This inspiring story serves as a testament to the power of acknowledgment, asking for help, and the healing power of the Hemaya Center. It reminds us all that awareness and honesty are the true lifeline in the fight against addiction.
