University Medicine Halle Expands Minimally Invasive Pediatric Surgery Services

Starting August 2025, University Medicine Halle is set to expand its minimally invasive pediatric surgery program with new procedures, specialists, and appointment opportunities.

The University Clinic and Polyclinic for Pediatric Traumatology and Pediatric Surgery at the University Medicine Halle will open a new specialized clinic for minimally invasive surgical procedures in children and adolescents. This clinic, headed by Dr. Sascha Azarhoush, senior physician and head of the clinic, aims to provide each child with an individual, gentle, and safe treatment.

The new clinic will offer a wide range of minimally invasive procedures, including operations on the appendix, gallbladder, spleen, ovaries, stomach entrance, hernias, tumors, diverticula, and pediatric urology procedures. One of the methods the clinic will employ is laparoscopy, also known as "keyhole surgery", which has been successfully used in the field of pediatric and adolescent medicine at the University Clinic Halle (Saale) for several years.

The clinic benefits from a particularly high level of safety and comprehensive care due to close interdisciplinary cooperation with specialized departments such as pediatric radiology or pediatric intensive care medicine. In case of complications, an experienced interdisciplinary team is available at all times.

The new clinic is aimed at parents whose children have been referred for a planned procedure, as well as referring pediatricians. Families will receive comprehensive information about the course and alternatives of the planned operation. Regular consultations for parents and patients regarding minimally invasive pediatric surgery procedures will be offered every two weeks on Mondays from 9 am to 2 pm, starting August 4, 2025.

The new clinic will cooperate with the specialized clinic for pediatric urology. The entire spectrum of pediatric and adolescent medicine at the University Medicine Halle is combined in the Department for Operative and Conservative Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.

To schedule an appointment or for further information, please contact the clinic under 0345 557 2075 or by email at [email protected]. For the most accurate and up-to-date details about the expanded minimally invasive pediatric surgery services at University Medicine Halle, it is advisable to consult the official website or contact their pediatric surgery department directly.
