Pigeon sanctuary shuts down due to avian illness - Shelter shuts down amid pigeon illness outbreak

The Berlin Animal Shelter has temporarily closed its doors following an outbreak of Newcastle disease among its avian population. The disease was discovered in the shelter's pigeon population on Monday.

In response, the veterinary office has ordered the closure of the shelter to prevent the spread of the disease. The entire bird population is being examined to ascertain the extent of the outbreak and implement appropriate measures.

Director Toska Holtz has stated that the shelter can return to normal operations after at least 42 days, once tests come back negative from the veterinary office. Until then, the shelter will remain closed to the public, with the exception of animal adoptions by appointment.

Despite the outbreak, there is no risk to humans or other animals. The shelter has assured the public that stringent precautions are being taken to contain the disease and prevent its spread.

Animal adoptions are still taking place, but only by appointment. The shelter is restricting public activities for the time being, including walk-in consultation days. No information has been given on when regular operations will resume.

The shelter is working closely with the veterinary office to contain the outbreak and ensure the safety of its animals. The public is being asked to avoid visiting the shelter until further notice.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, we encourage the public to adopt animals from other shelters and to support the Berlin Animal Shelter during this challenging time.
