Population Protection Day 2025: Empowering Youth and Addressing Water Challenges
Prepare for an exciting day of learning and entertainment as the Population Protection Day 2025 approaches! This year's event, themed "Water - Utilizing Resources, Mastering Risks," will take place on July 12, 2025, from 10 am to 5 pm, on the Hohe Düne peninsula in Rostock.
The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), a federal higher authority under the business area of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, is organising the event. Ralph Tiesler, President of the BBK, will be present, along with a variety of state and federal authorities, aid organisations, fire departments, the Technical Relief Agency, and the police.
The BBK, established in 2004 and based in Bonn-Lengsdorf, has been at the forefront of ensuring the safety and well-being of the population. Its Vice President, Dr. René Funk, has been serving in this role since October 16, 2023, and Ralph Tiesler has been President since June 15, 2022.
The Population Protection Day 2025 promises a packed schedule. Expect engaging discussions about self-protection, state aid, and volunteering. The program will feature demonstrations from dog teams and water rescue, providing a hands-on look at the essential work carried out by these professionals.
The event will also address critical issues related to water scarcity and flooding. In light of the global water crisis, particularly in developing regions like Africa, innovations in water treatment and delivery technologies will be showcased. These include Gravity Water Stations, powered by electricity-free filtration, which provide safe drinking water to rural communities, and advanced dosing, monitoring, and protection technologies for water treatment.
A highlight of the day will be the first presentation of innovations in the NINA warning app, designed to keep the public informed and safe during emergencies. To demonstrate its effectiveness, a test warning via the NINA app will be conducted for the city of Rostock during the event.
The Population Protection Day 2025 aims to empower young people to shape their own futures and families in a fair and hopeful world. This aligns with World Population Day observed on July 11, 2025, which emphasises youth empowerment, reproductive rights, gender equality, and informed choices for sustainable development.
Interested citizens are invited to attend the event. The state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, and the Federal Agency for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance are extending this invitation.
