Taking a Break: Queen Margreeth's Recent Hospital Stay

Queen Margrethe of Denmark has been released from the hospital after a two-day stay - Queen Margrethe of Denmark has been released from the hospital following a two-day stay.

Queen Margreeth, Danish monarch for 52 years, recently spent two days at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. Born on April 16, 1940, she celebrated her 85th birthday in April. Her last public appearance was on May 4 at a World War II commemoration.

Her highness, who abdicated her throne in January 2024 and passed it to her son Frederik, has faced a series of health hurdles in recent years. In autumn 2023, she was hospitalized for several days following a fall. Her mostnotable health event was major back surgery in February 2024, which played a role in her decision to abdicate.

In May 2025, the queen was admitted to Rigshospitalet due to a common cold. This precautionary measure was aimed at safeguarding her well-being. Fortunately, she was discharged on May 12 after appropriate treatment.

While her health challenges are a concern, Margreeth remains dedicated to her royal duties. She underwent an extensive back operation in 2024, and her decision to abdicate was partially due to health concerns. This historic move, the first Danish monarch voluntarily stepping down in nearly 900 years, allowed her son, Frederik, to ascend the throne.

  • Following her recent hospital stay at Copenhagen's Rigshospitalet, Queen Margrethe II returned to her duties, demonstrating her commitment to her role. Both science and health-and-wellness have played significant roles in her journey, as she navigates the challenges of aging.
  • Despite her health hurdles, Margrethe II continues to prioritize mental health, a topic of growing importance in women's health, setting an example for women worldwide, including during menopause.
  • As a beloved figure in Denmark and beyond, the Queen's experience serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing personal health in addition to royal duties, a lesson that resonates within the realm of health and wellness.
