In a heartwarming display of empathy and generosity, the students of Mintraching primary school in Regensburg, Germany, recently participated in a charity run to support the Theo Ostbayern therapy project. This initiative, focused on providing animal-assisted therapies for disabled children in the Eastern Bavaria region, is an initiative of the vkm Regensburg.

The charity run was organised by the school's parents' council, under the leadership of André Schonowski. The event took place during a sports festival on July 11th, where parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends donated for every lap run by the students. The collective effort of the students resulted in a remarkable total distance of 760 kilometers, equivalent to the distance from Regensburg to the Baltic Sea or the Mediterranean.

On July 18th, Rector Sabine Scherer-Bogner presented a donation check of 4600 Euros to Christa Weiß, chairperson of vkm, for the Theo Ostbayern therapy project. The vkm Regensburg uses animal-assisted therapies to bring joy to the lives of disabled children, and their efforts are set to be further amplified with the opening of the therapy center in Zeitlarn, scheduled for August 17, 2025.

Engelbert and Christa Weiß, from the vkm Regensburg, visited the school's auditorium on May 23rd to inform the children about the work of the association for physically and multiply disabled people and present the therapy project Theo. They also extended an invitation to the children to visit and see how animals help to heal at the therapy center once it is operational.

The first therapy horses are expected to move into Theo Ostbayern this year, and the vkm Regensburg is looking forward to providing more joy of life and community experiences to disabled children and inclusive groups through this project. The Mintraching primary school children's generous donation is a significant step towards this goal.

Sports enthusiasts at Mintraching primary school also showed their support for science and health-and-wellness by participating in a charity run for the Theo Ostbayern therapy project. The school's upcoming sports festival in July will not only showcase various sports but also aim to surpass the impressive 760-kilometer run from last year's event, with all proceeds benefiting the charity.
