Press Conference Announcement: Ver.di and Klima-Allianz Deutschland's Discussion on "Improving Work Conditions for a Greener Transportation Future" scheduled for September 25, 2025, 9:30 a.m.

The public transport sector in Germany is facing a severe staffing crisis, with working conditions leading to a shortage of applicants, above-average sick leave, and a mass exodus from the profession. To tackle this issue, ver.di and Climate Alliance Germany have commissioned a study by KCW Consultants to examine working conditions in the driving service sector.

On September 25, 2025, at 9:30 AM, a press conference titled "Transport Transition Needs Good Jobs - Solutions to the Staffing Crisis in Public Transport" will be held. The event will be open to the media and will take place either as a video conference or in person at the ver.di Federal Administration, Paula-Thiede-Ufer 10, 10179 Berlin, Room Bertolt Brecht.

The press conference will be attended by ver.di and Climate Alliance Germany, and speakers will include Christine Behle, Deputy Chairperson of ver.di, Stefanie Langkamp, Head of Politics, Climate Alliance Germany, and Harald Blome, Managing Director of nsbw Consulting (Author of the Study). Christine Behle will personally participate in the press conference in Berlin, with no representative substituting for her.

The purpose of the press conference is to discuss the study and proposals to address the staffing crisis in public transport. The study, conducted on over 130,000 unionized employees in the driving service sector, found that working hours in the public transport sector are among the least attractive in any industry. Long and split shifts, unpaid breaks and travel times, weekend work, and varying start times are common.

Jan Thomsen, Press Spokesperson of the ver.di Federal Board of Directors, is responsible for the content of the press conference. Registration for the event can be done via email at [email protected].

Join us on September 25, 2025, as we discuss solutions to the staffing crisis in the public transport sector and strive to create better working conditions for those who keep our cities moving.
