A 53-year-old man from Middle Franconia, Germany, is under pre-trial detention, suspected of commissioning a child living in the Philippines to sexually abuse herself and broadcast it via livestream over several years.
According to the General Prosecutor's Office in Bamberg, the investigation was triggered by a letter from an aid organization in the Philippines, passed on to the Federal Criminal Police Office via Australian security authorities. The letter alleged that an unidentified German was involved in the commission of child pornographic material in the Southeast Asian country.
The alleged offender is accused of having contacted a 12-year-old girl in 2022, and paying unknown individuals for the girl to present herself in a sexualized manner and perform severe sexual acts with other men, which he watched via livestream on WhatsApp. During a search of his apartment in Erlangen-Höchstadt, investigators found data carriers, weapons, and weapon parts. The nature of these items is still under investigation.
The Philippines has become a significant hub for online sexual abuse and exploitation of children, often involving livestreaming. Many cases involve family members as facilitators or traffickers, complicating law enforcement efforts. Germany has strict laws against child sexual abuse and exploitation, with penalties including imprisonment for up to 15 years or more under the German Criminal Code (StGB). International cooperation is essential to combat these crimes, as reflected in operations like the joint HSI and Europol effort.
