Over 32 million fish re-introduced into the Willow River
In the heart of the Chernyshevsky fish hatchery, an ambitious venture to populate rivers with precious fish species has wrapped up. The Vilui reservoir now brims with a staggering 31 million whitefish fry, 900,000 Siberian cisco fry, and a solid 100,000 chub fry, as announced by the press service of the region's higher-ups.
Why the sudden aquatic abundance? According to the nuts and bolts of it, this fish fancy is part of industrial companies' green efforts. This year's fishy flood in the river mirrors last year's. Fast forward to August, and another 20,000 young Siberian sturgeon are slated to join the party, as revealed by Vasily Cherepanov, the hatchery's big boss.
Before you ask, yes, stocking rivers has been a recurring splash in the region as of late. Aisen Nikolaev, the big cheese of Yakutia, confirmed it. Last year alone saw a breathtaking 32 million water-dwelling critters released into the republic's watery playgrounds, with a whopping 30 million whitefish fry, 1.5 million Siberian cisco fry, and 15,000 young Siberian sturgeon gracing the Vilui River, the Vilui and Svetlino reservoirs, and Lake Timir-Kyunde in the Verkhneviluysky District.
Speaking of the project's motivations, it humbly bows to the aims and objectives of the national project "Ecology," concocted at the request of the Commander-in-Chief, Vladimir Putin.
By the by, if you're curious about the fish stocking game plan for 2024, here's a hot tip: a whopping 45 million fish eggs of various species have already been amassed in Yakutia for next year's escapade. Wink, wink.
The fishy project at the Chernyshevsky hatchery aligns with industrial companies' health-and-wellness initiatives, as it aims to boost the region's aquatic life. This year's fish stocking is an extension of the same environmental-science driven efforts witnessed in previous years.
