Novo Nordisk & Costco Team Up to Slash Ozempic & Wegovy Prices
Novo Nordisk and Costco have teamed up to make weight loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy more affordable and accessible. Starting this month, Costco members with a prescription will pay $499 out of pocket for a four-week supply of Wegovy, with additional discounts for executive members and Costco Citibank credit cardholders.
This partnership aims to make the drugs, which contain the active ingredient semaglutide, more convenient. Semaglutide slows digestion and signals fullness, aiding in weight loss. The out-of-pocket cost at Costco is approximately half of Ozempic's list price and about two-thirds less than Wegovy's list price.
Novo Nordisk has previously cut the price of Wegovy to $499 per month for certain out-of-pocket patients and offers both drugs at the same price at its direct-to-consumer website, CVS, and Walmart. Eli Lilly's weight-loss drug, Zepbound, is also available for $499 per month or less at select pharmacies. With over 500 Costco pharmacies across the US offering these drugs, the potential customer base is significant, considering more than 100 million people visit Costco for groceries.
The collaboration between Novo Nordisk and Costco is set to make Ozempic and Wegovy more affordable and accessible to a broader range of consumers. The reduced out-of-pocket cost and increased availability at Costco pharmacies could lead to more people considering these weight loss drugs as an option.
