Middle East crisis raises concerns among the European Parliament
The 190th Oktoberfest has officially begun in Munich, welcoming over six million visitors each year, with a record of over seven million expected. Amidst the festive atmosphere, the city has implemented a tightened security concept this year, extending the knife ban to the surrounding area.
In a tragic turn of events, a 71-year-old showman, Biggi Baumgärtner, passed away near the showmen's trailers on the morning of the festival. Despite resuscitation efforts, she could not be saved. Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.
Temperatures during the Oktoberfest are soaring, with record-suspicious 31°C registered at the measuring point Theresienwiese during the afternoon. The heat has led to an increased number of cases treated by the Aicher Ambulance, responsible for the rescue service at Oktoberfest. By the afternoon, they had treated over 280 cases.
Later in the afternoon, an 18-year-old man from Arizona (USA) was brought to the medical station due to beer intoxication, with a measurement of 2.9 per thousand.
Despite the potential for becoming the Wiesn hit, Beni Hafner, alias Oimara, considers hearing his song once in a tent as his dream coming true. He will perform four times during the Oktoberfest at the Wiesn. His hit 'Wackelkontakt' has a good chance of becoming the Wiesn hit of the year 2025.
Jürgen Drews, a Schlager star, skipped the classic beer at the opening due to being an 'anti-alcoholic'. Florian Silbereisen, standing next to Jürgen Drews, offered non-alcoholic beer as a solution.
Markus Söder, Bavaria's beer-garden-experienced Minister-President, also entered the tapping ceremony. As has been tradition for decades, the Bavarian Minister-President received the first liter. Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter successfully tapped the first keg despite the high temperatures.
Smoking marijuana is still not allowed at Oktoberfest.
As the festivities continue, the city of Munich and its residents welcome visitors from around the world to enjoy the 16-day celebration that is Oktoberfest 2025.
