Medical Helicopter Crash on Highway 50 Injures Three Critically
A medical helicopter operated by REACH Air Medical Services crashed on Highway 50 in Sacramento Monday night, leaving three people critically injured. The helicopter crashed upside down, closing the eastbound lanes of the highway. Sacramento City council member Lisa Kaplan witnessed the scene while on a ride-along with law enforcement. One of the victims was trapped underneath the helicopter and required rescue efforts from firefighters and bystanders. The crash involved a pilot, a nurse, and a paramedic, all of whom were severely injured. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the crash, alongside REACH Air Medical Services. The helicopter, which was the only vehicle involved, left a large debris field. The crash has led to the closure of the eastbound lanes of Highway 50. Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty praised the first responders and bystanders who assisted at the scene.
