Livestock Association Aligns with Eating Better Movement
The Pasture-Fed Livestock Association Joins Forces with Eating Better Alliance
The Pasture-Fed Livestock Association (PFLA) has recently joined the Eating Better alliance, a coalition of over 50 organisations advocating for reduced meat and dairy consumption. This collaboration aims to promote a shift towards more extensive, 100% grass-fed livestock production systems.
The PFLA brings its wealth of experience from independent, purely grass-fed British livestock farmers to the alliance. Organisations such as the Nature Friendly Farming Network also form part of this farmer-led movement.
Eating Better, on the other hand, represents interests in public health, environment, climate change, animal welfare, and farming. Last year, they published 'Principles for eating meat and dairy more sustainably'.
The PFLA has developed a unique certification called 'Pasture for Life' to guarantee that their farmer members' meat and dairy products come from 100% grass-fed animals. Certified Pasture for Life products offer numerous benefits, including lower fat content, higher concentrations of vitamins and minerals, and more good fatty acids that can help fight diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
The PFLA advocates for meat from animals that have only eaten grass and green plants, which is healthier for human consumption compared to meat from grain-fed animals. Currently, there are 83 certified Pasture for Life farmers, 32 certified butchers, and four certified creameries within the PFLA.
The PFLA's farming methods are environmentally friendly, offer high animal welfare potential, and take a natural, holistic approach to high-quality food production. This aligns well with Eating Better's mission to promote a reduction in meat and dairy consumption and a shift towards more sustainable production systems.
Consumers interested in purchasing Pasture for Life products can find out where to buy them on the PFLA website's 'Where to Buy' page. The PFLA's goal is to increase the supply and build consumer demand for their certified Pasture for Life products.
Eating Better and the PFLA have worked together for some time, contributing to an ongoing dialogue about sustainable food production. The Eating Better alliance considers the PFLA's joining a natural step, building on a strong existing and ongoing relationship.
This collaboration between Eating Better and the PFLA is a significant move towards promoting nutritious, healthy, and sustainable diets in the UK. By encouraging people to eat less meat and dairy but of better quality, produced with greater environmental, animal welfare, and social responsibility standards, they hope to balance health, environment, and ethical considerations in food systems.
