Kristy Beam, a seasoned educator with 24 years of experience, has been making waves in City Schools of Decatur. As the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, she spearheaded a virtual learning program for the district's 6,000 students during the 2020-21 academic year. Her innovative approach has earned her the Innovative Leader Award for 'Most Innovative Learning Spaces' at Tech & Learning's Georgia leadership summit.

Beam's journey in education spans teaching grades 3-12, administration, and even preparing teachers in the university setting. When the pandemic hit, she swiftly put a teacher team in place to share responsibilities and resources. She then partnered with the Decatur Education Foundation to train teachers and provide necessary tools for the virtual learning program.

Beam didn't just stop at making learning spaces virtual. She embedded a social-emotional learning regimen to provide holistic support for students. This holistic approach, combined with her data-driven mindset, has set her apart. Currently, Beam is exploring the best data warehousing tools to turn data into useful information for teachers. She believes in building relationships with teachers when using data to inform instruction, aiming to foster a strong data culture in her district.
