India's Digital Detox Initiative "Beyond Screens" revealed by Karnataka ITBT Department and AIGF
In a groundbreaking move to uphold responsible gaming and digital wellness, honorable Minister for IT & BT, Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka - Priyank Kharge, launched India's first industry-led Digital Detox Initiative - "Beyond Screens". This collaborative effort between the Department of Electronics, IT, Biotechnology, and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka (ITBT Karnataka) and the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), represents a crucial milestone in tackling digital dependency and advocating for balanced tech use.
As concerns over digital addiction intensify, the Government of Karnataka and AIGF have banded together to construct a strategic roadmap with clear objectives. Beyond Screens serves as a go-to resource hub for individuals grappling with digital addiction, focusing on education, support, and empowerment. The Digital Detox Initiative (DDI) provides diverse solutions through short, medium, and long-term objectives.

Beyond Screens isn't just here to offer immediate support for those battling digital addiction but intends to integrate digital detox programs into mainstream healthcare. Key goals include:

Minister Priyank Kharge addressed the audience at GAFX 2025, reaffirming the government's commitment to digital well-being. He emphasized that Beyond Screens is evidence of their dedication to promoting responsible digital consumption and the well-being of their citizens.
Regarding the importance of digital detox, Priyank Kharge expressed, "As a firm believer of balance in our digital lives, I always say, 'sunlight before screen light.' The 'Beyond Screens' initiative is a testament to our commitment to promoting responsible digital consumption and ensuring the well-being of our citizens. This initiative will address the often ignored challenges of digital addiction by providing structured support, raising awareness and integrating digital wellness into mainstream healthcare."
Speaking at the launch, Roland Landers, CEO of AIGF, emphasized the industry's role in fostering responsible digital engagement. Landers stated that, "As the oldest and largest industry body for online gaming in India, AIGF has always been committed to fostering a safe, responsible, and sustainable digital ecosystem. We are honored to support the Government of Karnataka in launching Beyond Screens, a pioneering initiative in digital wellness. This is a great first step toward fostering a balanced and responsible approach to digital engagement.
