Heidelberg & Mannheim Medical Faculties Merge for Enhanced Training & Research
The Medical Faculties of Heidelberg and Mannheim are merging, a decision welcomed by their respective rectors and deans. This alliance, involving university administrations, state institutions, and research funding bodies like the DFG, aims to complete by January 2027.
The merger will maintain renowned study programs like MaReCuM and HeiCuMed at both locations, ensuring future-proof medical training. The combined faculty will be one of Germany's largest, offering excellent conditions for research, teaching, and clinical practice.
The alliance enables cross-site planning, driving progress in research, teaching, and clinical practice. It also strengthens the international standing of medicine in the region and contributes to the universities' excellence profiles. The alliance of the two university hospitals is set to be official at the start of the coming year.
