Heidekreis Fire Department Handles 309 Deployments in 2024, Adapts to New Software Command-X
In the Heidekreis district, the fire department has been preparing for major incidents with training sessions on a new software, Command-X. Meanwhile, they've handled various deployments, including a high water event and a carbon monoxide poisoning incident, with a total of 309 deployments by the end of 2024.
The district has initiated the ELO relief, bringing in forces from the north to bolster incident commanders in Ahlden, Schwarmstedt, and Rethem during high water deployments. Despite no significant flood events in the district recently, it's part of the Hochwasserpartnerschaft Oberweser, which coordinated cross-district and interstate assistance during the 2023/24 Christmas floods. In late 2023, the Aller high water deployment lasted only two days, with the district fire brigade providing support.
In January, a family at Langelohsberg was rescued after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty heating system. Throughout the year, the fire department responded to 136 fire incidents, rescuing over 35 injured people, but sadly also recording four fatalities. Among the 309 deployments, 173 were assistance operations, including 27 due to storm damage and 18 for oil spills. The deployment software Command-X, introduced by the state, is already in use and has been well-received by the fire department.
The Heidekreis fire department has shown resilience and adaptability in handling various incidents throughout 2024. With the successful integration of the Command-X software and coordinated relief efforts, they are well-prepared for future challenges.
