Healthcare Real-Time Location System abilities broadened with Intelligent Observation's acquisition by HID
In a move aimed at expanding its reach in the healthcare sector, HID has announced the acquisition of Intelligent Observation, a Miami-based provider of hand hygiene compliance technology.
The acquisition will see Intelligent Observation's hardware and software solutions integrate into HID's Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) portfolio, enhancing healthcare facility efficiency and safety through location intelligence.
The system, which uses SaaS and near-field magnetic induction (NFMI) technology, offers wearable NFMI devices that detect when healthcare staff are near sanitation stations and whether they properly sanitize in real time. This hardware integrates with a cloud-based dashboard that provides detailed reports on compliance across multiple levels—from overall facility trends to specific rooms, including isolation wards.
Key benefits and features of the system include:
- Real-time detection and recording of hand hygiene events with centimeter-level location accuracy via wearable NFMI devices.
- Detailed reporting and analytics providing administrators with data on handwashing frequency, duration, and compliance rates, supporting infection prevention efforts.
- Generation of individual hygiene scorecards to enable self-monitoring and targeted training for healthcare staff, improving overall hand hygiene culture.
- Ability to track and analyze compliance in specific areas, such as isolation rooms, enhancing infection tracking and containment strategies.
- The platform supports infection prevention in healthcare settings, aiming to reduce hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) and improve patient safety.
- Integration into HID’s broader RTLS portfolio, enhancing healthcare facility efficiency and safety through location intelligence.
Seth Freedman, CEO of Intelligent Observation, stated that joining HID will help the company further its mission. He added that the acquisition supports Intelligent Observation's mission to reduce hospital-acquired infections through innovative technology.
Intelligent Observation will operate within HID's Identification Technologies Business Area, and its hardware will merge into HID's RTLS Business Unit. The company was founded in 2019, and its solutions have been designed to combat the growing threat of hospital-acquired infections.
In addition to the hand hygiene compliance technology, the system also includes infection tracing tools and allows for tracking handwashing duration.
Meanwhile, DMP, another HID company, has introduced JamAlert, a device to combat the growing threat of illegal cell jammers. The device is designed to alert authorities when a cell jammer is detected, helping to ensure the safety and efficiency of communications in various settings.
With these acquisitions and new product launches, HID executives aim to deliver best-in-class RTLS solutions for safer, more efficient healthcare environments.
