Graphic Novel Honors Venerable Father Emil Kapaun, American War Hero
The cause for the canonization of Father Emil Kapaun, an American Catholic priest and military chaplain, was opened in 1993. In February 2023, he was declared 'Venerable'. A graphic design about his life and legacy has been released to inspire readers.
Father Kapaun served as a military chaplain during World War II and the Korean War, reaching the rank of captain. Despite being imprisoned in Korea, he continued to minister to his fellow prisoners until his death in May 1951. The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) has now released a graphic design about his life. Titled 'Father Kapaun: American Hero', it was launched on September 23 and accurately tells his story, verified by military historians. This is the first time a military chaplain is featured in AUSA's comic book series, which usually highlights Army Medal of Honor recipients. AUSA releases four graphic designs every year, showcasing heroic lives and stories.
Father Emil Kapaun's graphic design serves as a testament to his courage and dedication. It joins other works celebrating his life and legacy, ensuring his story continues to inspire future generations.
