Global dental sector in Vietnam bolsters its presence within the international medical tourism landscape
Vietnam's dental care industry is expanding beyond traditional disease treatment, with a growing focus on aesthetic care for various life stages, including pregnancy, orthodontics, and prosthodontics for the elderly. This evolution is driven by factors such as increasing awareness of oral hygiene, rising disposable incomes, and advancements in technology.
Recently, ABC World Asia led a $24 million Series B round in Kim Dental, a leading dental system operator in Vietnam, to support the expansion of affordable and reliable oral healthcare services. Similarly, Vietnamese dental clinic chain Parkway secured a $5 million investment. These investments underscore the potential of Vietnam's dental services market, valued at $4.21 billion in 2024 and projected to reach $5.50 billion by 2030.
However, the industry faces challenges, particularly in terms of standardization. Pham Thanh Ha, deputy director in charge of professional affairs at National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, noted that while cosmetic dentistry has grown significantly in Vietnam, there is a lack of consistency and a strong common standard to support global integration.
To address this issue, the sector is taking steps to improve quality for international tourists. Aligning with international clinical protocols and safety standards is a key strategy. Advanced dental technology, such as digital X-rays, 3-D CT scanners, and CAD/CAM milling units, is being employed, and rigorous sterilization standards are being maintained to ensure safety and hygiene.
Moreover, the workforce is being trained abroad, with dentists being educated in countries like the United States, United Kingdom, and France. Continuing education programs like VIDEC 2025 (Vietnam International Dental Exhibition and Congress) are promoting ongoing professional development, helping dentists stay current with global best practices and innovations.
Government regulations also play a role in this improvement. The Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued the Circular 09/VBHN-BYT in 2025, providing a regulatory framework for cosmetic management in Vietnam. Clinics such as The East Rose Dental, noted among Vietnam’s top dental systems, emphasize high-tech equipment and expat-friendly services to cater to international patients' expectations.
Strategies targeting international tourists typically combine competitive pricing—often 70-90% lower than Western countries—with comprehensive service models. This includes airport pickups and all-in-one care packages to provide a worry-free, convenient patient experience.
In summary, Vietnam’s cosmetic dentistry sector is improving quality for international tourists by aligning with international clinical protocols and safety standards, utilising advanced dental technology and sterilization, maintaining a workforce trained abroad with continuous education, implementing government regulations like the 2025 cosmetic management circular, offering competitive pricing combined with full-service experiences that cater specifically to international patients, and promoting ongoing professional development through continuing education programs.
