In a shocking turn of events, a 24-year-old man from Arcadia, Florida, identified as Israel Rivas Jr., has been arrested for allegedly shaking his 2-month-old baby, causing the infant to be diagnosed with Shaken Baby Syndrome.

The incident took place outside a Florida bar named Nauti Parrot Oasis, located in Fort Myers, around August 8-9, 2025. According to reports, Rivas was with friends at the bar when others went inside, leaving him in the parking lot with the baby. In a moment of frustration, Rivas is said to have violently shaken the child, leading to the tragic diagnosis.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) and the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office have been involved in the case. Israel Rivas Jr. was arrested by the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and booked into the Charlotte County Jail. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he has since been released on bond.

Medical staff later confirmed the baby's diagnosis of Shaken Baby Syndrome, a condition caused by forceful shaking that can result in brain injury, retinal haemorrhages, and spinal cord damage. Fortunately, no lasting injuries were expected for the baby.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit presented the case to the State Attorney's Office, resulting in a child abuse charge. The State Attorney's Office is yet to release further details about the charges or court hearings.
