Kelly Clarkson's Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock Passes Away

American singer Kelly Clarkson is "devastated" following the premature death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who passed away on August 7 at the age of 48.

Brandon, a native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, was the ex-partner of Kelly Clarkson and the father of her two children, River (11) and Remington (9). The cause of his death was revealed as "natural," resulting from a malignant tumor on the skin.

In the lyrics of her famous song, "Piece by Piece," Kelly praises Brandon for filling the holes left by her father's absence. She wrote that Brandon never leaves, never asks for money, and takes care of her because he loves her. The song also expresses her faith that a man can be good and that a father stays.

Brandon's death certificate states that he suffered from "seizures" that were significant conditions contributing to his death but were not the underlying cause. No information is provided about the nature of Brandon's seizures or the specific treatment he received for his melanoma, which he had been battling for three years.

The divorce between Kelly and Brandon, which was finalized in June 2020, was marked by controversies involving money. The couple disputed ownership and control of real estate, including a Montana ranch, adding complexity to the proceedings. Kelly was initially ordered to pay Brandon about $150,000 per month in spousal support plus child support. However, she later accused him of financial misconduct and unlawfully procuring business deals while managing her career.

The controversies surrounding the divorce primarily involved disputes over spousal support, child custody, property division, and allegations related to Blackstock's management of Clarkson's career. Kelly reportedly felt betrayed by Blackstock's relationship with another woman in her inner circle during their marriage, and there were allegations of infidelity during his previous marriages.

Kelly also suffered from depression during the divorce proceedings. Despite the acrimony, she aimed to maintain a cordial relationship for the sake of their children, even scaling back work commitments when Blackstock’s health declined. Kelly eventually won primary custody of their two children amid noted “level of conflict” making co-parenting difficult.

The medical examiner in charge of Brandon's case is Dan Hollis of Silver Bow County, Montana, USA. An arbitrator later ruled in Kelly’s favor, ordering Blackstock to pay her $2.6 million.

Kelly Clarkson's divorce from Brandon Blackstock became a highly publicized legal and financial battle intertwined with personal grievances and business entanglements, reflecting the difficulties of disentangling a marriage that was also a professional partnership.
