Evacuations Initiate in Northern Gaza by Israel

Israel Orders Forced Evacuation of Last Hospital in Northern Gaza

The Al-Awda Hospital, the only functioning medical facility in northern Gaza, has ceased operations following a forced evacuation ordered by Israeli authorities. The evacuation came on or before May 29, 2025.

According to the Al-Awda Hospital, there were 97 individuals within the facility at the time of the evacuation order, including 13 patients and 84 medical staff. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has confirmed the loss of service at the hospital, further exacerbating the collapse of Gaza's healthcare infrastructure in the north.

Israeli forces reportedly demanded the immediate evacuation of patients and staff after subjecting the hospital to days of siege and repeated targeting. The evacuation was carried out under the threat of bombing, and patients had to be carried on foot as roads were blocked and medical supplies destroyed.

The Gaza Health Ministry has condemned the forced closure, describing it as a direct threat to the right to health and life, and a violation of international humanitarian law. The ongoing hostilities and repeated attacks have also hindered access to medical care for the broader population, leading to rising deaths and disease as the health system collapses.

Israel has been engaged in military operations in the Gaza Strip since Hamas and allied fighters launched a large-scale attack on October 7, 2023. The conflict has resulted in numerous casualties, and Israel's stated goal is to completely destroy Hamas and free the hostage extremists still holding captives.

  1. The community policy regarding health-and-wellness in Gaza should address the impact of the forced evacuation of Al-Awda Hospital on the general-news and medical-conditions of the region.
  2. As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues (politics, war-and-conflicts), employment opportunities for both local and international medical professionals in the field of science may grow, with a focus on rebuilding Gaza's healthcare infrastructure.
  3. The crime-and-justice department should investigate the allegations of illegal actions taken by Israeli forces during the forced evacuation of the hospital, ensuring accountability for any violations of international humanitarian law.
  4. The ongoing forced evacuations and destruction of healthcare facilities (employment, employment, employment, employment) raise concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, highlighting the need for peaceful negotiations and de-escalation in the region.
