Hey there!

Last year, lifeguards from the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) were busy in Saxony, providing aid in various situations. The DLRG reported that they helped a staggering total of 710 people. These incidents ranged from rescues, first aid, wound care, to searches for missing persons. In 33 particularly critical cases, lifesaving measures were performed. In all, volunteer lifeguards in Saxony dedicated an impressive 18,700 hours of service. The DLRG had 510 active lifeguards in the Free State.

Previously, there were unfortunate reports of 16 people dying in bathing accidents in the Free State, compared to 15 in the previous year, 2023. Most incidents occurred in open waters; five people drowned in rivers, and six in lakes. Tragically, one person also perished in a swimming pool. With only one exception, all drowning victims were aged 50 and above. As in 2023, bathing accidents among those under 30 resulted in no fatalities.

What's the DLRG's role?

The DLRG, short for Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft, is Germany's primary organization for water rescue, prevention of drowning, and public education about water safety. They track annual bathing accidents nationwide, including rescue operations. Given Saxony's lakes and rivers, they are especially active during seasonal bathing periods. They offer assistance through rescue stations, patrols, and first aid services during these times.

However, finding recent and specific bathing accident statistics and DLRG assistance data for Saxony can be challenging as current results indicate a lack of detailed trend data in available search results. For accurate and up-to-date information on bathing accidents and DLRG assistance, it's recommended to consult official reports or press releases directly from the DLRG Saxony branch, Saxony state government health and safety departments, or related local authorities.

Stay safe and enjoy the water!

The DLRG's role in Saxony primarily focuses on water rescue, drowning prevention, and public education about water safety, especially during seasonal bathing periods. In light of the increasing importance of health-and-wellness, fitness-and-exercise, and social policy for community welfare, it would be beneficial for the DLRG to implement education programs that integrate scientific knowledge about swimming, lifesaving, and first aid, as part of their social policy to ensure a safer and healthier community.
