University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein Opens Medical Center for Adults with Disabilities

The University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) in Lübeck has inaugurated a specialized medical center aimed at enhancing accessible healthcare for individuals with disabilities. Health State Secretary Oliver Tauras (CDU) lauded the new facility, asserting that it significantly boosts inclusion and participation in health care.

Jens Scholz, UKSH's CEO, considers the center a significant stride towards enhancing the quality of life for numerous people. He emphasized, "This medical center is a clear demonstration of commitment and inclusion, indicating that we as a society assume responsibility for all its members."

From the age of 18, adults can seek care at the Medical Center. People with severe disabilities often confront challenges in finding suitable medical assistance within the current healthcare system. Tasks like documenting medical history and describing current discomfort can often be complex.

Michaela Pries, Schleswig-Holstein's State Commissioner for People with Disabilities, stresses the center fills a significant care vacuum in the northernmost state, particularly benefiting those with cognitive or severe multiple disabilities. Specialized knowledge, barrier-free access, and sufficient time for individual support are vital aspects for such individuals.

The Medical Center for Adults with Disabilities addresses the unique needs of individuals with disabilities through a comprehensive approach, encompassing physical accessibility, specialized care teams, accessible communication, and tailored treatment plans. For more specific details, consult the hospital directly or find relevant resources.

The Medical Center for Adults with Disabilities, established by University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, offers vocational training programs within its comprehensive approach, aiming to empower individuals to manage their health-and-wellness better. With a focus on chronic diseases and mental health, the state-of-the-art center also provides facilities for scientific and medical research on disability-related conditions. In accordance with the community policy, this center incorporates a strongly inclusive atmosphere, ensuring that all members with disabilities have access to adequate and quality care.
