Diakonie Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz has awarded four remarkable projects - dedicated to integration and refugee aid, children and youth work, community and care. "By presenting the Wichern plaque, we aim to highlight innovative individual projects within the Diakonie and thus strengthen and promote the social pioneering spirit, especially in these challenging times," said Diakonie director Ursula Schoen in a statement. The Wichern Diakonie in Frankfurt/Oder, Brandenburg, is being honored for supporting families with multiply disabled children from the partner kindergarten Sumy in Ukraine. Semiannual aid transports are organized, and accommodations have been set up for 15 families with a total of around 45 people from Ukraine.
Cool Community Hub: Eisschmiede in the Uckermark
Sozialdiakonische Jugendarbeit Lichtenberg from Berlin envisions bringing democracy closer to young people between the ages of 14 and 20. This year, SozDia Foundation Berlin took over the Eisschmiede in Pinnow, a meeting place in the Brandenburg village with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants, where the AfD prevailed in the 2024 local elections. The Eisschmiede's motto: "We want to shape life together - for people and with people!"
