Copernicus Realschule Adopts School Bike for Third Consecutive Time
In the picturesque town of Langenfeld, the annual city cycling event has become a much-anticipated occasion, and this year was no exception. The event, which encourages citizens to cycle instead of drive, saw impressive participation from various segments of the community, including the 8th grade classes of Kopernikus Realschule.
Accompanied by Principal Frank Theis, the students embarked on a multi-day cycling tour that traversed the hills of the Eifel to the Mosel and back. Despite the challenging terrain and the occasional inclement weather, the students camped overnight, demonstrating their commitment to the cause.
The Kopernikus Realschule's cycling team covered a total of 24,801 kilometers during the event. This impressive feat was achieved through daily commutes, weekend group tours, and spontaneous outings. The success of the Kopernikus Realschule is partly due to the committed teaching staff who inspire their students to embrace an active lifestyle.
For the third consecutive year, the Kopernikus Realschule won the Langenfeld school cycling event. Principal Frank Theis expressed his pride in the students' achievements, stating, "There were unexpected hurdles during the tour, but the learning effect for life was great."
Goran Brozovic, head of the Langenfeld department of environment, traffic, and civil engineering, commended the event, saying, "The city cycling event serves as an annual reminder to travel by bike instead of by car. This year, the citizens of Langenfeld covered a total of 143,772 kilometers during the three-week event, helping to avoid 24 tons of CO2 emissions that would have been caused by the same distance traveled by car."
Next year, the city cycling event will be expanded to include participation from the website and other municipalities of the Mettmann district. Principal Frank Theis encourages students to commute to school by bike, regardless of the competition, as he believes it fosters a healthier lifestyle and a more sustainable environment.
The date for the action period of next year's city cycling event will be announced in good time, providing another opportunity for Langenfeld's residents to take part in this inspiring initiative.
