In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Paderborn Police took part in the annual cross-border traffic safety action "sicher.mobil.leben" on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2023. This year's action, themed "Kinder im Blick" (Children in Focus), aimed to address the dangers for children in road traffic and sensitize road users.

During the reinforced traffic controls, the officers focused on schools, kindergartens, and routes leading to them. Over 24 locations were controlled during the morning hours at the start of school and kindergarten. The results were significant, with a total of 112 violations registered.

Speeding was a major concern, with 88 of these violations being speeding offences. Two specific incidents involved vehicles from a care service and an Opel driver, both travelling at 70 km/h and 66 km/h respectively, where the permitted speed was 30 km/h at a Hövelhofer school. Both drivers can expect a one-month driving ban.

Three violations were recorded against cyclists, and nine other offences were logged. Among these, nine times, vehicle drivers or passengers were found not wearing seat belts. Three instances of phone use while driving were also noted.

While detailed information on the Paderborn Police's implementation of such actions in previous years, such as 2021, was not found in the available data, it is known that Germany regularly conducts various road safety campaigns, often emphasizing vulnerable groups such as children. For more specific and authoritative information, it would be best to consult official sources like the Paderborn Police department website or press releases, the German Road Safety Council, or local government or regional traffic safety offices in North Rhine-Westphalia.
