Charity Sale of Watermelon Curd Snack Amasses Over €8,000 in Two and a Half Months, Aiding Children and Animals
In a heartwarming collaboration, Food Union Latvia, the leading producer and distributor of fresh dairy products and ice cream in Latvia, has launched a limited-edition watermelon-flavoured Kārums snack. This unique product, developed in collaboration with the creators of the animated short film Flow, is more than just a treat - it's a story of friendship and a fulfillment of children's wishes.
The watermelon flavour was chosen based on the ideas collected from over 5,000 Latvian children. This special edition snack ties into charitable initiatives, with a fixed portion of sales revenue from the watermelon-flavoured Kārums snack being donated to the Children's Hospital Foundation and Remi Cat Centre every quarter.
Ilva Veidemane, Head of Marketing at Food Union Latvia, expressed that the watermelon-flavoured Kārums snack is "more than a treat - it's the fulfillment of children's wishes and a story of friendship." Laura Podžuka, Remi Centre Representative, also expressed gratitude for the generous support, stating that the donation makes a real impact on both stray cats and the pets of vulnerable members of society. Liene Dambiņa, Head of the Children's Hospital Foundation, expressed gratitude for the initiative, stating that it helps children overcome fear and begin their journey toward healing.
The special edition Kārums Flow watermelon curd snack is now available in multiple countries, including Estonia, Lithuania, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Canada, Bulgaria, and Malta. In the savory Kārums assortment, there are three fresh cheeses with and without additives. In the sweet snacks category, the Kārums brand offers 19 curd snacks, five sweet cream spreads, five bifido yogurts, three curd desserts, and two curd creams.
The main competence of the company lies mainly in the segment of fresh dairy products and ice cream, and its brand portfolio boasts healthy and high-value-added products made from the best quality milk obtained from more than 100 Latvian farmers. The Food Union group in Latvia consists of Rīga Dairy Combine, Valmiera Dairy, and Premia FFL. Food Union Europe, including Food Union Latvia, has been majority owned by "PAG Private Equity" since January 2024.
Within less than three months since its release, donations have been made thanks to the partnership between the snack brand and the Flow animation team. Sales of the watermelon-flavoured Kārums snack have raised €8,847.02, which will be donated to the Children's Hospital's canine therapy program K̄epu terapija and Remi Cat Assistance Centre. For the first quarter, Food Union Latvia will donate €4,423.51 each to the Children's Hospital Foundation and Remi Cat Centre.
