CFIA Recalls Indian Punjabi Bazaar Pistachios Due to Salmonella Risk
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for Indian Punjabi Bazaar brand pistachios due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall follows an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
The recalled pistachios are green, sold in 200g quantities, and packed on August 13. They are marked with UPC code 0 201540 307486. Consumers are advised not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute these pistachios. The affected product was sold at Indian Punjabi Bazaar, located at 499 Ray Lawson Blvd., Units 4 to 10 in Brampton.
Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. While healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms, long-term complications can include severe arthritis. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious infections. Anyone who believes they became sick from consuming the recalled pistachios should contact their healthcare provider.
The CFIA is working with the retailer to remove the recalled pistachios from the marketplace. The investigation into the outbreak is ongoing. Consumers can contact the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 or [email protected] for more information.
