Carbon Dioxide Emissions Subsidized - Single Employee Sustains Slight Injury
Fire Department Responds to CO2 Leak at Hattingen Discount Store
A CO2 leak at a discount store in Hattingen prompted a response from the local fire department on Monday evening. The incident, which involved full-time personnel and the Mitte fire station, lasted for two hours.
According to reports, the call was due to an activated alarm device indicating a possible CO2 leak. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed elevated CO2 levels in the affected area using measuring devices. Smoke was also reported at the location, and extensive ventilation measures were initiated immediately to clear the area.
One employee complained of health issues, and the employee was treated by the emergency services and taken to a hospital as a precaution. Fortunately, no further health issues were reported among the employees or customers.
Upon completion of all measures, the scene was handed over to the store operator. The store remained closed for the rest of the day for further safety checks and investigations. After measurements were back in the safe range, the storage area was inspected with a company technician.
The cause of the CO2 leak was a technical defect in the cooling system. The staff had reacted exemplary to the situation, and upon arrival, the market was already evacuated.
It is worth noting that the special response group for atomic, biological, and chemical incidents was not deployed, indicating that the situation was contained and under control. The search results do not provide information about the operator of the shopping market where the incident occurred.
Despite the incident, it is reassuring to note that no structural damage was reported as a result of the CO2 leak. The staff's quick response and the efficient work of the fire department ensured the safety of all involved. The store is expected to reopen after the completion of the safety checks and investigations.
