Bodies Worlds Arrive in Munich
Get ready to explore the challenges facing your body in the fast-paced 21st century with the "Body Worlds Munich" exhibition set to open on April 11, 2025. This exciting event will offer an unprecedented look beneath the surface of the human body, shedding light on the daily battles we face in today's world.
A Glimpse at Life's Rapid Pace - "Body Worlds - At the Pulse of Time"
Curator Dr. Angelina Whalley aims to reveal the impacts of our frantic 21st-century lifestyle on our bodies. "Every action we take – from our physical activity and diet to stress levels and social environment – affects our body, for better or for worse," she explains. Her aim is to demonstrate how to lead a healthy, long life in the 21st century.
The Wonder of Plastination
To help explain our anatomy, the exhibition will use many plastinates, a technique invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens in 1977. "Through plastination, anatomical specimens can be aesthetically and permanently preserved. Their body cells and natural surface relief remain identical to their original state, even at the microscopic level. The specimens are dry, odorless, and truly tangible," he explains.
Body Worlds delivers a comprehensive understanding of the human body's complex structure and presents the functions and interactions of our organs and common diseases in a remarkably lifelike manner. Wondering where the body parts come from? Donors participate in the body donation program run by the Institute for Plastination in Heidelberg.

The fast-paced lifestyle of the 21st century can take a toll on our health, both physically and mentally. While the "Body Worlds Munich" exhibition doesn't specifically address these impacts, it does offer an intriguing look at human anatomy and the potential effects of various lifestyle choices on our bodies. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the long-term effects of modern lifestyles, one would need to look at broader health studies and research on the topic.
