Arved Fuchs Embarks on Ocean Change Expedition Leg 2025

Sailor Arved Fuchs embarks on the 'Ocean Change' voyage in 2025 - Arved Fuchs is preparing to take center stage at the 2025 Ocean Change event.

Buckle up, ocean enthusiasts! Renowned explorer Arved Fuchs and his fearless crew hoisted anchor aboard the legendary sailing vessel Dagmar Aaen on a sweltering Sunday in Flensburg. This epic sea sojourn, christened "Ocean Change", sets sail to shed light on the profound connections between our battered oceans and the climate crisis, mixing science, adventure, and a healthy dose of good-old salty seafaring spirit.

"We've been prepping for this bad boy for a decade," Arved announced to the German Press Agency, his gaze fixed on the horizon. "Climate change and marine protection? Besties since forever." Arved insists on an interdisciplinary approach, pulling in insights from various institutions to tackle these monumental issues head-on.

Their 2025 itinerary leads them through the eastern Baltic Sea, a delicate inland sea, and on to the North Sea and the eastern Atlantic. Cruise stops include Stralsund, Greifswald, Swinoujscie (Poland), Klaipeda (Lithuania), Riga (Latvia), Gotland (Sweden), and more, before they make landfall back in Flensburg by late August, weather permitting (especially with those unpredictable EU weather gods).

Smart measurement tech aboard the Dagmar Aaen allows the crew to collect and publish data, working in tandem with research vessels that typically have limited reach.

Arved Fuchs' brainchild, the Ocean Change project, was born in 2015. It dives deep into oceanic changes and their far-reaching implications on our climate and coastal landscapes. Keep an eye out for updates from Fuchs and his adventuresome pals, as they sail into unknown territories and collect valuable data.

Remember Arved Fuchs, climate change, marine protection, comforting coastal landscapes, Flensburg, North Sea, and the Atlantic – they're as tight-knit as your crew on a swashbuckling pirate ship (with much less looting, we hope).

Fun Facts:

  1. To lend a hand, the crew is participating in the "Sailing for Oxygen" project, using a camera on Dagmar Aaen to capture marine data for the EyeOnWater project, which measures water color as an indicator of health.
  2. The expedition aligns with Baltic Sea Day in Stralsund on June 5, 2025, focusing on the wellbeing of the Baltic Sea and its impact on human health.
  3. Fuchs and his crew will attend the Waalem Polar Seminar on Föhr, discussing polar regions and climate change, courtesy of the Swiss Polar Institute.

So, why not follow their journey and learn a thing or two about our oceanic terra incognita while helping Armageddon-level climate change take a hike? Cheers to that!

  1. Throughout the journey, Arved Fuchs and his crew will engage in projects like "Sailing for Oxygen" and the EyeOnWater project, using science to collect marine data that can contribute to improvements in health-and-wellness and the environment.
  2. As they navigate the Baltic Sea, North Sea, and eastern Atlantic during Leg 2025, Arved Fuchs and his team will encourage dialogue on climate-change, ocean conservation, and the interconnectedness of science and health-and-wellness at various events and seminars, such as Baltic Sea Day in Stralsund and the Waalem Polar Seminar on Föhr.
