Google Pixel Watch 4: A Sleek Update with Enhanced Functionality

The tech world is abuzz with anticipation for the upcoming Google Pixel devices, but one gadget that has been relatively quiet is the Pixel Watch 4. Despite the muted discussions, the smartwatch is expected to make a significant splash at the upcoming Made by Google event on August 20.

According to reports from Android Headlines, the Pixel Watch 4 is set to run on Wear OS 6, the latest version of Google's smartwatch platform. This upgrade promises visual and functional improvements, better smart home controls, and enhanced notification handling. Additionally, Google's Gemini Assistant, the more powerful AI assistant upgrade, is rumoured to be integrated into the Pixel Watch 4, although the exact timeline for this integration remains unclear.

One of the most significant improvements expected in the Pixel Watch 4 is a substantial battery capacity boost. This could be enabled by a larger overall size and thinner bezels that accommodate the bigger battery. Another notable hardware innovation is a new side-mounted charging system. This design allows the watch to stand upright on its side while charging, displaying the time like a small clock.

Health tracking is another area where the Pixel Watch 4 is expected to shine. It will continue to feature Fitbit-based health sensors, but there are rumours of continuous blood oxygen (SpO2) tracking throughout the day. This could also bring alerts for low oxygen levels, further enhancing the device's personal safety features.

In terms of personal safety, the Pixel Watch 4 is expected to feature Emergency Satellite Communications, joining its existing Personal Safety features such as Emergency SOS, Crash Detection, and Fall Detection. The Breathing Emergencies feature is another new addition, alerting users when low oxygen levels are detected, thanks to its continuous SpO2 monitoring capability.

While the Pixel Watch 4 is expected to continue using the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset from the Pixel Watch 3, there are minor hardware changes hinted at in leaks. These changes are aimed at easier repairs and include additional new colours. There are also speculations of Pixel-exclusive features, but these have not been officially announced yet.

In summary, the Pixel Watch 4 will primarily showcase Wear OS 6 and Google's updated assistant while improving battery life and health tracking software. Its new charging design and potential satellite communications are notable hardware innovations expected at the August 20 launch. With only a few weeks left to wait, the tech community eagerly awaits the official unveiling of the Pixel Watch 4 and the new Pixel phones.
