Alert in Bavaria: Harmful bacteria detected in two soft cheese varieties
In Bavaria, Germany, a recall has been issued for two popular soft cheese products: "Buchette de Chevre Vieux Porche 200g" and "Camembert de Caractere Vieux Porche 250g", manufactured by S.E. Chavegrand. The affected products, which have specific expiration dates, are being sold in the region.
For "Buchette de Chevre Vieux Porche 200g", the expiration dates are 13.08.2025 and 20.08.2025. Meanwhile, the expiration dates for "Camembert de Caractere Vieux Porche 250g" are 09.08.2025, 15.08.2025, 16.08.2025, 22.08.2025, and 29.08.2025.
The recall is due to a suspicion of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a serious disease. Symptoms of listeriosis may include fever and diarrhea. Pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk from listeriosis. In rare cases, listeriosis can lead to severe consequences such as meningitis or blood poisoning.
As of now, there have been no new public updates regarding the recall. For the most current information, it is recommended to check official sources such as the Bavarian health authorities or the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) in Germany, as recall notices and updates are typically posted there.
If you have purchased these products, it is safest to avoid consumption until further notice. Consumers, especially at-risk groups, are advised to be vigilant.
For any queries or concerns, the contact for both affected products is +33 (0) 800 00 91 80. Stay safe and make sure to keep an eye on official updates.
